Chirava Wooden Coconut Grater

Fresh coconut is part of everyday cooking in Kerala. The tool used to prepare it has remained familiar for generations—and for good reason.

Chirava retains the seated form of the traditional Kerala coconut grater and refines it for the modern home. Its long solid-wood base helps the grater remain steady during use, while the raised wooden support positions the stainless-steel grating head at a practical working height.

The serrated grating head helps prepare fresh coconut for thoran, chutneys, curries, coconut milk, payasam and other everyday recipes. Because it is completely manual, there are no motors, wires or complicated parts—only a simple tool that gives you direct control while grating.

Unlike a kitchen tool that needs to be hidden after every use, Chirava is made with considered proportions, smooth edges and visible natural grain. It feels equally at home in a contemporary kitchen and a traditional Kerala home.

Each piece is crafted at our own workshop in Kerala. Natural variations in grain and colour are part of the wood and make every piece subtly different.

HOW TO USE

Place the Chirava on a dry, level floor. Sit securely on the rear section of the wooden base, facing the grating head. Hold half a coconut firmly with the flesh facing the serrated teeth. Use short, controlled movements and rotate the coconut as required.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Remove coconut residue from the grating head immediately after use. Carefully wipe the metal surface clean and dry it completely. Wipe the wooden body using a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth.

Do not soak the product, wash it in a dishwasher or pour water over the wooden body. Store it in a clean, dry place.

SAFETY

The serrated grating head is sharp. Keep fingers away from the teeth during use and store the product safely away from children.
